Well what an awesome day I had yesterday my very first Helicopter lesson. I have been up in choppers before but this was the very first time I have had the chance to fly one.

Well here is my latest little film from a recent dive on Flynn Reef from Cairns on The Great Barrier Reef. This little girl was a little scared at first but she came round and decided i was not a threat and took off for a free swim over to the next bommie.

My name is Clint Carroll and I live in Cairns. Both myself and partner Caroline Auger have travelled backpacking many parts of the world including South East Asia, Canada, USA, Mexico, South America, England, UK, France, Turkey, Greece, Italy and Holland just to name a few. Diving in Cairns is very easy when you get here you will see there are about 50 different companies to choose from. We have been diving here since November 2008 and wow there is allot to see out there. Open water divers have the choice of I think 5 very good companies. Our top 5 favorites would be:

We had one of the best dives of our lives on Silversonic last Saturday the 18th April. Visibility was about 15metres and we dived Barracuda Bommie which had huge schools of Barracuda, small white tip reef sharks, an amazing lion fish, a Wobegon shark and a huge Moray Eel. The boat was very clean and tidy I’d say about 35 people on board. Dive gear was in great condition, we used the larger 12l tanks and actually had one of my longest dives ever at 58 minutes.

We finished the last dive of the day with a fantastic drift dive for about 800 metres spotting 3 green sea turtles and another 3 white tip sharks…….. fantastic.

I thank all the crew on that day and the Outer Reef was at her best showing us allot of what she had to offer.

Travel in Cairns and surrounding area’s is amazingly easy you will find it very easy to get around the city and surrounding areas. Just recently we made some fantastic diving from Port Douglas on the Agincourt Ribbon Reef Systems. These ribbon reefs are write out there on the drop off to the coral sea and we must say they were absolutely amazing to say the least. We visited Barracuda Bommie, Turtle Cay and Trigger fish City doing 2 drift dives of nearly 59 minutes, it was fantastic.

Itinerary

Coach departs accommodation for the Marlin Wharf Cairns
8:15am Coaches arrive at the Marlin Wharf and passengers board Silverswift. Tea, coffee and biscuits served until departure
8:30am Depart Marina Mirage for the trip to the Outer Barrier Reef. On the way, detailed certified and introductory dive briefings are given
10:00am Arrive at the first site. Divers gear up, while Snorkellers listen to a site briefing by the snorkelling advisor. Get ready to view the beauty of this natural wonder!
11:30am After the initial water activities, enjoy a tropical hot and cold lunch [included in the fare] served in the air conditioned cabin. The lunch includes fresh prawns, pasta, meats, salads and fruit. There are bar facilities available where you can purchase drinks.
12:30pm Silverswift departs for 2nd reef location. Option for introductory divers to do second dive and certified divers to do their third. Snorkellers are once again briefed as to the best areas to snorkel.
2:30pm Afternoon tea is served.
2:45pm All passengers to board vessel for count
3.00pm Silverswift commences return to Cairns
4:30pm Silverswift arrives at Cairns
4:40pm Coaches depart for accommodation
